CODE BUILDERS Lesson 6 of 6 ← All courses
Station 6 · Launch Pad

Launch Day

This is it! Today you'll check, test and finish your website, give credit honestly and show it off. 3, 2, 1… launch!

About 45 minutes. You can stop and come back. Your answers are saved in this browser.

Part 1 · Warm-up

Remember the whole track?

Four quick questions, one from each of the last few lessons.

Part 2 · Learn it

The launch checklist

Before a rocket launches, the crew checks everything, one item at a time. Websites are the same! Here's your checklist:

  1. Every page has the same menu, and every link works.
  2. Every picture has alt text that describes it.
  3. Colors and text are easy to read.
  4. The site works in a narrow (phone-sized) window.
  5. No personal info: no full name, no photos of people, no school, no address.
  6. All code has been Code Checked: nothing from other websites, nothing that asks for info.
  7. There's a Credits section saying what AI helped with.

User testing

You know your site too well to spot every problem. A user test is when someone else tries it while you watch.

HOW TORun a user test
  1. Give your tester a job: "Find the page about my favorite tricks," or "Do the quiz."
  2. Watch quietly. Don't help! If they get stuck, that's useful information, not their fault.
  3. Write down every place they got confused or something didn't work.
  4. Afterwards, ask: "What was the best part? What was confusing?"

Real web designers do this all the time. A problem found by a tester is a problem you can fix!

Give credit honestly

AI helped you build your site, and that's fine. Being honest about it is what matters. A Credits section says what you made and what AI helped with:

<section>
  <h2>Credits</h2>
  <ul>
    <li>I chose the topic, planned the pages and wrote all the text myself.</li>
    <li>I drew the pictures myself.</li>
    <li>AI helped me write the first version of the code. I changed the colors, menu and quiz myself.</li>
    <li>AI explained the JavaScript to me line by line, and I fixed two bugs.</li>
  </ul>
</section>

Your website stays on your computer, so it's safe to show your family right there. Even so, keep the privacy rule. One day you might build sites that go online, and good habits start now.

Part 3 · Spot it

Ready to Launch?

Each website below has one problem. Which checklist item does it fail?

Part 4 · Build it

Credits Builder

Write your own Credits section in the playground. Be honest and specific: what did you do, and what did AI help with? Then copy it into your real website.

    Part 5 · Try it for real

    Launch Board

    Get your real website ready for launch! First go through the checklist on your site. Then do the three launch tasks.

    Final review together

    Before you show your website to anyone else, go through the checklist with a grown-up. Check every page together, especially the privacy item.
