Station 3 · Feedback Loop

Talk Back: Making Answers Better

The first answer an AI gives you is just a first draft. Today you'll learn how to talk back and turn it into something great.

About 40 minutes. You can stop and come back. Your answers are saved in this browser.

Part 1 · Warm-up

What do you remember?

Last time you learned to show the AI an example. Let's check what stuck!

Part 2 · Learn it

The first answer is a first draft

Think about getting a haircut. The hairdresser does a first cut, and then you say: "A bit shorter on the sides, please." You don't walk out and give up! You give feedback until it's right.

Chatting with AI works the same way. The first answer is a first draft. Then you send a follow-up: a short message that tells the AI what to change. The AI remembers what you were talking about in that chat, so you don't have to start again.

Your follow-up toolbox

1

Shorter / simpler

"Make it shorter." "Explain it more simply."

2

More like…

"Make it funnier." "More like a story."

3

Keep A, change B

"Keep the ending, but change the start."

4

Give me options

"Give me 3 different versions."

5

Ask me first

"Before you answer, ask me 3 questions."

Watch follow-ups work

EXAMPLE 1Climbing to a great poster slogan
YouWrite a slogan for a poster about saving water.
AIConserving water resources is essential for a sustainable future.
YouMake it shorter and catchier. It's for people my age.
AISave water. It's cool to care!
YouGive me 3 options that rhyme.
AI1. Turn off the tap, don't let it drip, take a shorter shower trip!
2. Every drop counts, so save big amounts!
3. Be a water hero, waste close to zero!
YouKeep option 3, but make it fit on one line of my poster.
AIWater hero: waste zero!

Four small follow-ups turned a boring sentence into a slogan you'd actually put on a poster.

EXAMPLE 2Keep the good part, change the rest
YouWrite a 5-sentence story about a cat who becomes a detective.
AIWhiskers was an ordinary cat until the day the fish went missing… (the story ends with the cat finding the fish under the sofa)
YouI love the ending! Keep it exactly the same, but change the beginning so it starts in the middle of a storm.

"Keep A, change B" stops the AI from rewriting the part you already liked.

EXAMPLE 3Let the AI ask you questions
YouI want to plan a fun Saturday with my cousin. Before you suggest anything, ask me 3 questions.
AIGreat! 1. How old are you both? 2. Do you want to stay home or go out? 3. What do you both enjoy?
YouWe're 11 and 12. We're staying home. We love building things and baking.
AIHere's a plan: a morning cardboard-castle challenge, then baking castle-shaped cookies in the afternoon…

When you're not sure what to include, let the AI ask. Its questions remind you of ingredients you forgot!

Byte says

Two important tips. If the AI asks you questions, answer with your needs, never personal details like your full name, school or address. And know when to start a fresh chat: if you switch to a totally new topic, or the AI keeps going round in circles, a new chat gives it a clean start.

Part 3 · Spot it

Best Next Move

Each AI answer below is only okay. Pick the follow-up that would make it better.

Great moves! ♟️

Part 4 · Build it

Conversation Ladder

Here's a first answer that's way too hard to read. Write 3 follow-ups, like climbing a ladder, to turn it into a great answer for you. Use the toolbox above for ideas.

YouWhy do we have seasons?
AISeasons occur due to the axial tilt of Earth, approximately 23.5 degrees, relative to its orbital plane around the Sun. This obliquity results in variations in solar insolation and photoperiod across latitudes throughout the year…

Part 5 · Try it for real

Talk-Back Missions

Time to use your own chatbot. Missions get harder as you go. Bronze is the one to do today. Silver and Gold are extra challenges for when you want more.

★ Bronze

Two-Step Upgrade

Practice turning a first draft into a better one.

  1. Ask your chatbot any question you're curious about.
  2. Send one follow-up that changes the shape (shorter, a list, steps).
  3. Send one more that changes the style (simpler, funnier, with an example).
★★ SilverExtra challenge

Ask Me First

Let the AI ask the questions.

  1. Pick something real to plan: a weekend activity, a gift idea, or a club or team activity.
  2. Start with: "Before you suggest anything, ask me 3 questions."
  3. Answer its questions (no personal details!), then see what it suggests.
★★★ GoldExtra challenge

The Polishing Round

Go from 3 options to one perfect answer.

  1. Ask for 3 options: names for a pet or a team, a title for a story, or a slogan for a poster.
  2. Pick your favorite and say what you like about it.
  3. Polish it with at least 3 more follow-ups until you're really happy.

Part 6 · Prompt Playbook

Add a page to your Playbook

This page is a little different. Save your favorite follow-up phrases so you always have them ready.
